Watercolour Portraits

Watercolour portraits make a beautiful gift for your family and friends for any occasion all year round

It couldn’t be easier to commission your own piece of art.

Once you have decided on a size and how much of the subject/subjects you want painted it’s simple to arrange your portrait. If you are unsure of size and background colour etc I can advise you on this.

Please send a good clear photograph or photographs via email to info@emmacolbertart.com. The better the quality of photographs, the better the painting will be. For extensive tips on taking suitable photos have a look at Tips for Photographing Animals

Waiting times can vary depending on work load – an approximate completion date will be given at time of ordering. Shorter deadlines for special dates can sometimes be met but on average my waiting list is around 7 months long. Christmas orders should be booked as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Final Payment and Shipping

Choose from a variety of payment options, including Revolut and Paypal, to finalize your payment. That’s it! Your portrait will be packaged and shipped to you.

Watercolour techniques are essential when it comes to mastering the art of watercolour painting (or aquarelle). Watercolours started being developed thousands of years ago, so over time many different techniques have been practised. It’s a complex, but extremely versatile medium, once you get a hang of it.

Watercolour paints are made up of coloured pigments suspended in a water-soluble vehicle. Combining the reflection of the white paper, and the translucent, delicate watercolour paints, creates an enchanting luminosity on the page. Watercolours are not easy to master, but with the right techniques and plenty of practice, they can be incredibly rewarding. When it comes to watercolour painting, you will want to have a range of brushes. The brushes you choose will depend on how large, or how small you work. If you most often work on the smaller side of things, then you will probably have to working with brushes ranging in sizes from 000 to six. It’s best to have a go with a range of different sizes at first to work out what your favourites are, and which work best for you.
